Unconscious Motives in Choosing a Medical Specialty Using the Example of Dentists

The present master's thesis investigates the unconscious motives behind choosing a medical profession on the example of dentists. The first chapter addresses the set theoretical objectives. In this chapter, an analysis of theoretical approaches to the concept of unconscious motives and their role in the formation of professional preferences was carried out. This framework made it possible to identify a number of key unconscious motives for choosing a medical specialty. In the practical part of the thesis, an analysis of semi-structured in-depth interviews with dentists of various specializations was carried out. This allowed to identify the main unconscious motives underlying the choice of the profession of a dentist, including various specializations. The findings of the present study may help professionals in the fields of education and psychology to design effective programs of support and development of future and current doctors.
