This study is devoted to analysing the influence of the philosophical concepts of French existentialism on the cinematic movement of the French New Wave. This study examines the main ideas of existentialism based on the works of French philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus and draws parallels with the work of New Wave directors, in particular Jean-Luc Godard and his film ‘In the Last Breath’. The theoretical part of the study includes an analysis of film theory based on the works of André Bazin, as well as the history of film clubs and film magazines. The concept of auteur cinema is considered. The relationship between theoretical concepts and practical manifestations of the influence of existentialism on the formation of ideology, concept and aesthetics not only of cinema, but also of the social and cultural life of the society of those years is analysed. The methods of cultural-historical analysis, as well as theoretical and comparative methods are used to achieve the goal.
