Musical instruments in the Old Babylonian texts from Mari in the light of archaeological and iconographic data

The study focuses on musical instruments known from the Mari archives (Syria, 18th century BC). This paper is based on inventory text M.5489 that provides names of five musical instruments, namely parahšītum, sammûm, šebītum, lēˀum and tingitallûm. Furthermore, the terms murumšûm, kinnârum, tilmuttum and enum are also discussed in this work. The research aims to identify these musical instruments by comparing them with the iconographic evidence known from other periods in Mesopotamia.
