The final qualifying work presents materials related to the study "Organization of the subject "Individual project" in high school on the example of the city of St. Petersburg and the Samara region." This study began in 2022-2023 in connection with the identification of the problem that, on the one hand, at the level of state standards and the initiative of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, we see an interest in the qualitative application of the project method throughout school education and its logical completion in the form of writing an individual project in high school to develop the competencies of the XXI century among students of general education organizations. The reverse side of the research states the formal approach of the project method in the education system, often wishful thinking is given out as reality, and we see imitation of projects and project-based learning at school only on paper. In the course of the work, the concept of project and research was analyzed, and a characteristic of both types of activity was given. The Federal State educational Standard of secondary general Education is analyzed, which defines the concept of “Individual project” and says that this type of activity is carried out by students independently, but under the guidance of a teacher. The work of colleagues in this area, which was carried out earlier, was analyzed and the experience of schools in the regions of Russia was studied. The main methods that were identified for studying this issue were content analysis of educational institutions' websites, in-depth semi-structured interviews with teachers who directly implement this project and know the situation from the inside, have information about problematic aspects and deficits, and also see opportunities and prospects for the development of this area. The survey of high school students helped to look at the situation from the other side - low motivation, lack of quality work, mismatch of expectations with reality and yet focus on results, participation in conferences and festivals. Different views on the same problem made it possible to analyze the causes of the current situation in more detail and develop proposed solutions. The results of this study will be of interest to education authorities, school leaders, teachers who are both teachers of the subject “Individual project" and project managers who write children
