The Degree Semantics of the Northern Khanty Superlative, Approximative and Other Constructions

Student: Kozlova Ekaterina

Supervisor: Stepan Mikhailov

Faculty: Faculty of Humanities

Educational Programme: Fundamental and Computational Linguistics (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2024

The purpose of this study is to develop an analysis of the superlative, approximative and related constructions in Northern Khanty (< Khantyic < Uralic). The data collected during four field trips will be subjected to the version of degree-based approach articulated in (Kennedy, 1999) and subsequent works. This area of formal semantics was developed primarily on English data but is currently being applied to other languages (e.g., Wellwood et al., 2013; Coppock et al., 2020; Hohaus, 2021). The present research aims to implement current theoretical developments in an analysis of Northern Khanty data, taking into account my previous findings (Kozlova, 2023) and the results of my predecessors (e.g., Winkler, 2020; Cheremisinova, 2022), related to approximative and comparative-attenuative markers in Uralic languages.
