In modern education not only academic are coming to the front, but also issues of development of various universal skills. One of the groups of universal skills — socio-emotional skills, the development of which is very important in primary school because this education stage is aimed to learn children how to manage his emotions and build constructve communication with others. In the Russian school educational standards, it is not clear what specific outcomes in social and emotional competencies should be achieved during the educational process and how to attain them. This research aims to establish a framework for fostering socio-emotional skills in elementary school grades in Russia. Taking inspiration from the CASEL model for developing socio-emotional skills, we investigated the educational environment of primary classes at a private school in Moscow (OANO "New School") that has adopted a systematic method for fostering socio-emotional skills. By gathering data through observations and interviews, we were able to identify the necessary conditions for establishing a supportive atmosphere conducive to socio-emotional competency growth. Additionally, we pinpointed both the prospects and challenges associated with implementing a similar model in other school settings.
