The issue of preserving cultural heritage is generally recognized and there is no doubt about its relevance. The All-Russian competition for the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment has been held in Russia since 2018. One of the goals of the competition, in addition to improving the quality of the urban environment and involving residents, is to preserve the cultural heritage of cities and develop the tourist potential of regions through the restoration and adaptation of historical sites to modern needs. The purpose of the study is to study the impact of the implementation of the winning projects of the competition for the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment on the cultural heritage of small towns and historical settlements. The object of the study is the implemented projects–winners of the competition, the subject is their impact on cultural heritage. The first chapter of the study explains the basic concepts and terms used in the work, describes the fundamental concepts and modern approaches to the topic. The second chapter of the work describes in detail and justifications
