Annually, systems of medical education around the globe face a plethora of challenges, such as pandemics, the advent of novel technologies, and armed conflicts. Medical schools have perennially struggled to swiftly adapt their curricula to align with the latest scientific and technological advancements. This issue has become particularly critical today, as these advancements often occur at a pace unprecedented in history. Weaknesses in the educational system can frequently lead to a shortage or imbalance of trained professionals, directly impacting the availability, quality, and safety of healthcare. In Russia, as in many other nations, the issues of staffing and quality of medical training are considered priority areas of national policy. Despite numerous initiatives directed at these areas, they continue to be among the most debated topics. This paper presents an analysis of foreign experiences in medical training as an indicator of current and anticipated changes in healthcare delivery systems. It offers a detailed examination of the national medical education system for physicians. A comprehensive evaluation of specialist programs, residency training, and targeted training systems has been conducted by experts in medical education and healthcare, program alumni, and the professional community. Recommendations for enhancing the training system, including targeted education programs, are provided. These suggestions aim to enable the medical education system to produce medical professionals who can meet the health needs of the population and ensure the provision of high-quality medical care.
