The level of mathematical literacy of Russian schoolchildren remains at an average level relative to other countries. In many ways, this may be due to the OGE and USE system, in which students are aimed at solving certain types of tasks, rather than developing skills in using mathematical apparatus in everyday life, although in recent years the content of exams has changed to include practice-oriented tasks, but they remain typical. This paper considers the possibility of developing the level of mathematical literacy of students in grades 5-6 with the help of a development on the topic "Ordinary fractions", a distinctive feature of which is the use of storytelling. In 9 chapters, the theoretical material is integrated into the storyline, and the main character of the collection finds himself in different situations where he discovers the applicability of the mathematical apparatus in practice. The manual is designed according to the model of pedagogical design "Understanding by design" ("Understanding through design"), and the educational results defined for development are determined by the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard, an analysis of the most common teaching materials in mathematics for grades 5-6 and the specification of mathematical literacy diagnostics developed by the MCCO. The Collection of Mathematical Fairy Tales has been tested in two formats: students who study independently at home without the participation of adults and a group of students who study according to the tasks of the collection during extracurricular hours together with a teacher. The results of the testing showed that the development is uniquely effective from the point of view of studying "Ordinary fractions", and also gives a slight increase in the development of mathematical literacy of schoolchildren.

Student Theses at HSE must be completed in accordance with the University Rules and regulations specified by each educational programme.

Summaries of all theses must be published and made freely available on the HSE website.

The full text of a thesis can be published in open access on the HSE website only if the authoring student (copyright holder) agrees, or, if the thesis was written by a team of students, if all the co-authors (copyright holders) agree. After a thesis is published on the HSE website, it obtains the status of an online publication.
