The graduate qualification work is devoted to the study of the problem of functional and stylistic potential of diminutives in Russian and Czech languages. The relevance of this study is due to the fact that they, like many other linguistic phenomena, reflect linguistic trends and changes that occur in the language almost daily. Diminutives are widely used in everyday communication, literature and mass media. They also play an important role in expressing emotions and conveying cultural values. In today's world, the issue of overcoming cultural barriers and national stereotypes is particularly acute, which can be done by deepening the knowledge of languages. The aim of this study is to identify and characterise the functional and stylistic potential of diminutives in Russian and Czech. The object of the study is diminutives in Russian and Czech. The subject of the study is the functional and stylistic potential of diminutives in Russian and Czech. The material of the study is diminutives of Russian and Czech taken from the National Corpus of the Russian Language (NKRYA) and the National Corpus of the Czech Language (ČNK). The results of this study can be used in the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language or Czech as a foreign language, which will help Russians and Czechs (and other peoples) to better understand the Russian and Czech linguistic picture of the world, their similarities and differences. Also, the results obtained may be useful in the study of diminutives in general as a linguistic phenomenon (within the framework of, for example, structural linguistics) or for compiling semantic dictionaries, as well as for the development of semantic corpus markup, which is the practical significance of this paper.
