This paper is devoted to the study of the social structure of time of residents of Moscow and Moscow region. The study provides a comparative analysis of time budgets of different population groups in Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as their subjective perception of time, which is understood as a feeling of lack of time, hurry. In contrast to most studies focusing on the balance between different spheres of life and gender differences in time budgets, this paper focuses on the territorial peculiarities of the social structure of time, the specifics of time use by residents of the megalopolis and nearby settlements. The analysis is based on the data of the Selective supervision of use of daily fund of time by the population, conducted by Rosstat in 2019. The paper consistently studies the distribution of time for different spheres of life of residents of Moscow and the Moscow region in general and for different socio-demographic groups in particular (men/women, employed population, students, retirees); compares the subjective perception of time of residents of Moscow and the Moscow region in general and for different socio-demographic groups; determines the nature of the relationship between time spent on different spheres of life, the feeling of lack of time and place of residence. The results of the study indicate that the social structure of time of residents of the capital and the region is quite similar, but there are some peculiarities. Thus, residents of the Moscow region spend more time on household chores, production of goods for their own consumption and for sale on the market, and less time on transportation and leisure activities. Due to the lack of free time, its passive spending, those living in the region may feel a stronger sense of hurry and lack of time both in general and by individual socio-demographic groups. The results obtained can be used to develop targeted social programs and policies aimed at improving the quality of life of various population groups in Moscow and the Moscow region.
