Currently, the Russian literature of the 1990s is arousing considerable scientific interest, since a sufficient time distance has not yet been passed, which is necessary for a proper assessment of the phenomenon. As a result, the oeuvre of Dmitry Gorchev (1963-2010), in our opinion, has still been studied relatively little. Critical articles and scholarly studies devoted to evaluating the influence of the Russian literary traditions on the work of D. Gorchev and describing this phenomenon suggested the influence of the nineteenth- and twentieth-century writers such as F. Dostoevsky, N. Gogol, D. Kharms, M. Bulgakov, M. Zoshchenko, Y. Olesha, etc. However, no specific work has been found on this topic. In this study, we will focus on the reception of Gogol's oeuvre in the cycle "Svolochi", making an attempt to fill this gap and make a practical contribution to the scientific field devoted to the work of D. Gorchev. In this paper we have attempted to identify various types of connections between the cycle "Svolochi" and the oeuvre of Gogol.
