The Origins of the New Philosophy of Pessimism in the Worldview Systems of Russian Intellectuals in the Late ХIХ – Early ХХ Century

Current work is devoted to considering the influence of the pessimistic philosophy of A. Schopenhauer on the Russian intellectual tradition in the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries. The study will examine indicated in historiography fact about the multiple reception of A. Schopenhauer’s works by representatives of the Russian intelligentsia, among whom A. Chekhov, I. Turgenev, and L. Tolstoy are most often identified. In current work, this hypothesis about reception will be verified through the prism of the “History of Ideas” methodology outlined by Q. Skinner, as well as through textual parallels and the establishment of the necessary genetic factors.
