The post-war Stalinist era represents a kind of dead zone, which is not so clearly fixed in historical memory and mass consciousness. However, this era became the turning point that greatly influenced the further development of the country and the formation of the USSR as a system. L. K. Chukovskaya's story “Going Under” is one of the few works that recreate the atmosphere of this era with extraordinary artistry and factual accuracy. In addition to the fact that the work allows us to trace certain historical and social processes, “Going Under” gives an exhaustive idea of how Soviet literature of the post-war Stalinism era functioned. Despite the fact that in recent years there has been a growing interest in the oeuvre of L. K. Chukovskaya, this story has not yet received due attention from readers and literary critics. In this regard, the purpose of this work is to analyze L. K. Chukovskaya's story “Going Under” in the literary and historical context of the era of late Stalinism of 1946-1953.
