The archaeological research of the Sylva River began at the end of the 19th century. Today the territory has a high degree of exploration. In the second half of the 20th century on this territory, there were two archaeological schools - Perm and Izhevsk. Due to different paradigms of archaeological schools, a number of archaeological sites in the lower reaches of The Sylva River were attributed to different archaeological cultures - Glyadenovo and Nevolin. To date, the problem of cultural and chronological interpretation of these sites is still relevant. The main material from the Sylva sites are fragments of ceramic vessels. Ceramics are one of the key cultural markers, as they reflect the cultural traditions of a particular population, so its analysis allows us to interpret archaeological sites. The final qualifying work presents an analysis of ceramic complexes from the Sylva sites of the 1st millennium AD, since it was at this time that a change of two archaeological cultures took place. The ornamental tradition and design of the rims of vessels were analyzed. The key methods were the method of descriptive statistics, the method of cluster-hierarchical analysis and methods of spatial analysis and geographic information systems.
