The evolution and the progression of Eastern modern literature in academic philological and oriental communities is seen as a promising field of research. In this context, one can say that presumably by establishing the beginning of modernity in specifically Korean traditional writing can help to acquire the bigger picture of said discourse. As the previous historical analyses suggest, the figure of Ch’oe Namson appears to be crucial for the establishment of Korean modernity and the new era not only for the nation’s new prose, poetry and journalism themselves but also for the patriotic education. Using his dedication to his nation and his talent, Ch’oe Namson managed to greatly influence the youth and the Eastern intelligentsia of the XXth century’s beginning, leaving behind a crucial legacy and making an impact on the way Koreans present their national identity. The main goal of this paper would be to examine Ch’oe Namson’s most important and influential literary works, along with the capturing the background of his writings and other patriotic activities, to trace the path of how Korea’s early XXth century’s literary education and modernism came to exist and develop throughout the years of Ch’oe Namson’s epoche.
