The work is devoted to the study of the rhythmics of English sonnets and the language models on the example of Thomas Hardy's work. His sonnets and prose were analyzed using computer and statistical methods to determine the influence of verse on prose in the author's work. In the study the data were also compared with indicators obtained from the work of some contemporaries to establish possible general trends for the English language. Thus, it was found that in the work of Thomas Hardy there is no influence of poetry on prose, since speech and language models are very similar. Moreover, the stressness profile of his sonnets is radically different from the models that are based on the prose text, and corresponds to the main trends of the English sonnet form.
