This thesis explores the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Russia’s oil and gas industry, assessing its impact on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance and operational efficiency. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical research, including interviews with 15 professionals in the energy sector, the study reveals both the potential and challenges of IoT technologies. The findings indicate a gradual adoption focused predominantly on environmental compliance, with significant barriers including security issues, expertise shortages, and severe environmental conditions. This research provides insightful trends and practical recommendations for optimizing IoT strategies to enhance ESG performance. The detailed analysis of interview data highlights real-world applications and the practical obstacles encountered, offering valuable guidance for energy companies and policymakers aiming to leverage IoT for sustainable development and improved operational outcomes.
