The purpose of my research is to investigate the impact of national monetary rewards for winning at the Olympic Games on athletes' performance. The study focuses on the influence of the amount of prize money awarded in each medal category. To isolate the net impact of payments, I use the results of World Cup athletes, which serve as an indicator of a country's sports development. The research draws on data from 33 countries participating in 7 Olympic Games and 14 World Championships over a 12-year period. The information was collected from publicly available sources. Our analysis reveals that prize money does not have a significant effect on athletes' performance at the Olympic Games.
