The number of adults learning online is constantly growing. Obtaining certification, retraining, and improving existing experience are frequent goals of this type of learning. Completion of homework is often necessary to achieve these goals. Learning engagement is noted as one of the predictors of successful course completion. However, the percentage of learners achieving their educational goals has remained low over time. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship of the learning engagement components with the percentage of completed homework assignments. A linear series of regressions was used to estimate the relation between the four components of learning engagement and the percentage of completed homework, with a sample size of 2,070 learners who started their study no later than 2020. The results provide further insight into the relationship between the components of learning engagement and homework completion among adult learners in an online environment. Thus, the significant relationship between behavioural and cognitive components of learning engagement mentioned in earlier studies was confirmed. The thesis of the importance of interest for adult learners was also confirmed through the significant relationship of the emotional component with homework assignment completion. The lack of significant connection of the social component of learning engagement questioned the importance of social iteration and sense of belonging for adult learners in online environments. Thus, the application of learning engagement theory provides a better understanding of the mechanisms of adult learning in online environments.
