This paper analyzes literary texts published in the magazine Zhenskii Vestnik (Women's Bulletin). Zhenskii Vestnik was issued from 1904 to 1917 in St. Petersburg and was one of the most enduring magazines associated with the women suffrage movement in Russia. The research studies how the fiction of Zhenskii Vestnik is integrated into the structure of the magazine, analyzes its themes and ideas, as well as the development of female characters (especially “new woman”). The paper uses the methods of distant and close reading, gender studies, as well as digital humanities (calculations in a database created specifically for women’s pre-revolutionary magazines).
