The Place of Philosophy in Higher Education in Modern Russia

This dissertation presents a qualitative analysis of teaching philosophy in the Russian bachelor's degree program at the levels of planned, implemented, and achieved curriculum. Based on the analysis of course syllabi, interviews with teachers and students, the main points of interpreting the teaching of philosophy as a non-core discipline were classified in accordance with educational ideologies identified by M. Shiro. Gaps were identified between the understanding of the role, goals, and structure of the course among different stakeholders in the educational process, which may affect the effectiveness of teaching this non-core discipline
