Corpus Analysis for the Study of Borrowed Words in the Texts of Russian and French-Speaking Media

Abstract: This study consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, and a bibliography. The main problem addressed in this work is as follows: how can corpus analysis reveal the dynamics of borrowings in Russian and French-speaking media, and what impact does this have on our understanding of linguistic exchange between these two cultures and others? The relevance of this master's thesis is determined firstly by the intensity of the processes of integrating English-language vocabulary in the field of information and communication technologies in French and Russian languages, as well as the need to clarify the pathways and methods of integrating this terminology. Observing the adoption of new terms in modern French and Russian languages shows their ability to borrow new elements while simultaneously demonstrating a conscious reluctance to accept them in their original Anglo-American form. The object of this study is Anglo-American borrowings in contemporary French and Russian lexicon in the media. The subject of the analysis includes neologisms of Anglo-American origin, as well as Anglicisms that entered the language earlier, allowing us to trace and identify patterns of their adaptation and functioning in modern French and Russian languages. The study also addresses the issue of the existence, coexistence, and implementation of French equivalents, including conscious influence on borrowing processes as well as measures to displace Anglicisms. The theoretical significance of the dissertation research lies in its results, which allow for the clarification of several known positions regarding issues of computer lexicon. This work helps solve the problem of introducing and using new lexical units in modern linguocultural conditions. The research was conducted on material reflecting changes in the French language at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries. The practical value of this work lies primarily in the fact that the materials and conclusions of the dissertation can be used for further study of linguistic borrowings from English and their integration into the French language. This can be useful in seminars and specialized courses, in preparing lecture courses, writing scientific articles, educational and reference materials, etc. Secondly, the results of this research can be used to solve practical tasks related to the functioning of the French language in the field of terminological neologisms, especially in translation practice. The structure of the final qualification work is determined by its purpose and objectives. The second chapter examines linguistic borrowings, Anglicisms most frequently used in Russian media from 1990 to 2021 (using the Russian National Corpus) and linguistic borrowings, Anglicisms most frequently used in the French language.
