Adapting Recruitment Strategies of Russian Businesses During a Crisis: A Study on the COVID-19 Pandemic

Student: Daria Agafonova

Supervisor: Sergey Solntsev

Faculty: Faculty of Economic Sciences

Educational Programme: (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The study examines the choice of strategies for finding employees of various categories under the influence of crises. Especially interesting is the comparison of search channels before and after the coronavirus pandemic, which led to changes in the labor market. The empirical analysis was carried out on the data of the survey of enterprises "Interaction of the internal and external labor market" of the HSE Labor Market Research Laboratory for 2015-2023. The results showed that businesses tend to use online search for workers more often after 2020, and rely less heavily on alternative channels. Even when experiencing difficulties leading to a reduction in the financial capabilities of the company, employers are more likely to resort to recruiters than other, more "cheap", in terms of costs, search channels. And the increase in state control leads is increasing the popularity of employment services.
