Doctor-nurse-patient relationship: between professional authority and the powers of consumers of medical services

The project "Doctor-nurse-patient relationship: between professional authority and the powers of consumers of medical services" was supported at the Faculty Competition for the formation of project groups at the HSE in 2023.

During the year, a study will be conducted in order to theoretically reconstruct, rethink and explain certain aspects of the relationship between a doctor, nursing staff and patients in the context of the challenges of managerialism and the empowerment of consumers of medical services.

The relevance of the project is determined by changes in the organizational field of Russian healthcare, transforming the professionalism of doctors, the emotional culture of nursing specialists, including in the context of a pandemic, on the one hand, as well as rights and opportunities of patients, on the other. In the modern Russian scientific literature, attention is mainly paid to the particular aspects of these problems, without going back to what mechanisms are behind these practices and what changes in the healthcare sector they reflect. The project attempts to close this gap. The development of medical technologies, trends in medicalization, the expansion of the list of medical specializations, the revision of the rules for expressing and living feelings by nurses during the pandemic requires a theoretical rethinking of the doctor-nursing staff-patient relationship and empirical verification of the proposed model. The study involves the consolidation of various research optics, approaches to study the clinical relationships that develop between key agents of the field of medicine.

The project team includes Olga Madfes, Elizaveta Kopysheva, Alexandra Kamenskaya, Victoria Somova and Natalia Baisha. The Leading Research Fellow of the Laboratory, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Social Sciences Daria Prisyazhniuk acts as a scientific consultant on the project.
