Online lecture "А profession of a social worker: a sociologist's view"
Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova, Head of the International Laboratory for Social Integration Research, delivered a guest online lecture "A Profession of a Social Worker: a sociologist's view" at the Faculty of Social Work at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian State University in Astana, Kazakhstan, on January 18.
A lecture covered how social work developed and transformed in post-socialist countries in the late 19th and 20th centuries, what features existed in the training of social workers under socialism, the emphasis was also made on how the activities of social workers were professionalized. The lecture raised the topic of how various sociological approaches are used in the study of social work as a profession: the attributive approach, social critical theory and phenomenological sociology were considered.
A lecture was organized by the Department of Sociology of the L. Gumilev Eurasian National University, and attended by the students, a Head of the Department, Dr. Nurlan Oralbayevich Baygabylov, MSS, lecturer of the Department of Sociology, co-founder of the NGO "National Alliance of Professional Social Workers" Ayagoz Kairtayevna Aubakirova; Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy of Karaganda University Kazpotrebsoyuz Madina Kochkarovna Abdakimova. Students and teachers actively participated in the discussion of theoretical and practical issues of professionalization of social work.
