Arseniy started considering his enrollment on the Joint «Master – PhD» Program track of studies at HSE University during the Faculty of Social Sciences`s Winter School of Sociology while Denis Strebkov's presented HSE University Master programs.

Arseny was eager to be engaged in large-scale scientific research projects together with more experienced scientists and to share the results of his research with fellow colleagues by preparing scientific papers for well-known scientific journals. So Arseny began looking for a potential scientific advisor and working on a research proposal since the end of August. Getting a PhD degree has always been Arseny's goal since start of undergraduate courses, and therefore now, as Arseny notes, he is "very happy to be part of a Joint Track and he is looking forward to working on the planned research!

The research Arseniy's applied to Joined Track with and which he is currently conducting in HSE ILSIR Laboratory opens a new field of research for Russian Social Sciences and is aimed to find out how is social inclusion possible in the social institute of Russian of civil service, which is relatively inaccessible for the public. The research tends to find out, what is the inclusive potential of the Russian civil service in terms of workers with disabilities or workers with other special health needs? Arseniy had been studying both social groups and communities and social inclusion since working on his year papers thesis during his Bachelor`s degree, so he was ready to start this research.

During the first two years of studies at HSE University Arseny is going to explore the inclusive potential of Russian civil service with the help of ethnographic studies of organization and is going to focus on social inclusion in terms of employees with disabilities and other special health needs. Such an approach during Arseniy`s work on his PhD dissertation could potentially be extended to the entire public organizations sector, so other manifestations of social inclusion could be included for analysis. During the upcoming Arseniy`s PhD degree, the interview method could also be used to compare the collected data with the data that have already been obtained by the HSE Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center in similar research on business companies, thereby making Arseniy`s study comparative.

The final step of applying for the Track was a projects pitch with the Graduate school admission committee and the other Joint Track candidates. For some, this format was a trial, but for Arseny it was a challenge that he successfully coped with. Arseniy says that he presented his project proposal to the potential Track curators and fellow track students at a high professional level.

"I am very grateful to my scientific advisor, professor Victoria Antonova, for the extremely intensive project proposal preparation. During the first two weeks of September, we were literally working on the set of documents for the application day and night. All these two weeks, professor Victoria Antonova was constantly in touch with me, shared valuable experience in preparing scientific papers, carefully but accurately gave recommendations on how to make an excellent set of application materials" – Arseniy notes.

Arseniy really hopes that his research under the guidance of Victoria Antonova will enrich Russian Social Sciences with the results of the ethnographic study in civil service organizations and data will be used by both scientists and HRss for maintaining diversity and acceptance t the civil service workplaces. The results of the research are planned to be used in the HSE Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center projects for the preparation of a handbook on inclusive employment (like the Council of Europe handbook) and the development of the Russian Index of Inclusive Employment.

Congratulations to Arseniy Buchatskiy on entering the Joint «Master – PhD» Program track of studies. We wish Arseniy good luck in implementing his research plans!
