More than forty researchers from different regions of Russia participated in the school. The preliminary phase of the Autumn school began last week. The first meeting of participants took place in the online format and the first lectures were held.
Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova, head of the ILSIR, gave a presentation "Evolution of approaches and tasks of visual anthropology". The school participants learned about the history of the study of visual data by social sciences and the role of social scientists in artistic projects related to the representation of various social groups and drawing attention to their social problems.
The School meeting was continued by independent researcher Mani Borzenko with a lecture "Death of the author as the first step towards inclusive representation". The focus was on archetypes of a person with disabilities, we most often observe their representation in films and cartoons. Special attention was paid to the main artistic means by which archetypes are visually embodied, and also discussed possible ways to achieve the most successful representation of inclusion.
