The diary of the Autumn School "Cinema as mediator: cinematic images in participatory social researches and practices" is already on the website of the ILSIR!

From October 30 to November 20, 2023, our Laboratory held another annual Autumn School. This year, participants examined social research and practices through the lens of cinema. The School's diary will tell you more about how it was.

The Autumn School "Cinema as mediator: cinematic images in participatory social researches and practices" gathered dozens of researchers from all over Russia. During the three autumn weeks, students and postgraduates of Russian universities communicated, shared their experiences and observations, and also listened to lectures by leading Russian specialists.

The first part of the School was held in a remote format, the second - traditionally - at the "Voronovo" HSE Study Center. This year was no exception. From November 16 to 20, participants attended face-to-face lectures, participated in discussions and master classes. The presentations were devoted both to the analysis of existing film works and to the search for an expressive language to convey a diverse and inclusive experience in cinema. The result of the School was not only new knowledge of its participants, but also new ideas – projects on the use of cinema to facilitate positive changes in society. During the discussions, the invited lecturers and participants became real creators, speaking on important social topics in the language of art. The research and creative work actively carried out at the School will undoubtedly continue beyond its borders!
