Arsenii Buchatskii took part in the first HSE Predoc PhD Preparation Program school
On 13-14 May, the first in-person intensive of the HSE Predoc Programme for Preparation for PhD in Social Sciences and Humanities was held at the HSE St. Petersburg campus. Arsenii Buchatskii, a research assistant of our Laboratory and a student of the Joint «Master's-PhD» Study Track, was one of the 21 participants of the intensive, selected among 36 candidates, and shared his impressions of the school.
«It was very valuable for me to present my results at the main colloquium and give valuable pieces of advice to my fellow colleagues» - shares Arsenii, - «Through the collaborative sessions, I was able to help many fellow researchers find new research questions or data for their topics. For me, it served as a confirmation that I am great at using social theory and distinguishing methodological approaches. Because of this, I will now have more confidence when I pursue my teaching career further and when I submit my research project to the graduate school».
On the final day of the school, Arsenii, as well as other participants, presented the design of his research «Social inclusion and diversity management: analysis of corporate culture and labor practices in Russian state organizations», conducted at the HSE ILSIR under the supervision of the Leading Researcher of the Laboratory Victoria Antonova, and the results of work on it for this year. The committee was chaired by Oleg Korneev, HSE Associate Professor and Academic Supervisor of the International Program «International Relations and Global Studies», and Ksenia Maksimovtsova, HSE Associate Professor and head of the HSE Predoc Program.
According to Arsenii, he received valuable comments and suggestions on the aims, objectives and research questions for future stages of his study:
«Defending my project in front of experts from outside my field was also quite agitating for me. Despite, I am very happy that the committee recognized my methodology as suitable and well-designed, suggested new concepts and directions for research (for example, suggested delving into policy research and policy making), and assessed the practical contribution and level of elaboration of the project. My supervisor, Professor Victoria Antonova, and I are already working on new promising directions of the topic we are studying. It was very pleasant to hear from my more experienced colleagues that I have every chance to successfully enter a PhD program!».
