On July 27, 2024 Roman Abramov, professor, a leading researcher at our laboratory, gave an open lecture on the topic "Imagination about society and social order in science fiction". The lecture was organized as part of the summer school on social anthropology "sbor—ka".
The lecture participants - students of socio-humanitarian fields of study - discussed with Roman Abramov one of the theoretical concepts - imagination, with references to the ideas of C. Wright Mills, Z. Bauman, P. Sztompka, E. Abbott etc. In particular, they discussed the project of "lyrical sociology" by E. Abbott and the place of vivid metaphors in the production of theoretical imagination in the social sciences. At the end of the lecture, Roman Abramov turned to the case of the formation of international container shipping as an object of research imagination. After the lecture, a seminar was held to discuss the results of a study on homemade business board games created and played by Soviet schoolchildren of the 1980s.
It should be noted that the summer school on social anthropology "sbor—ka" takes place from July 22 to 28 at the Higher School of Economics.
