Course Syllabus

Abstract

Economic resources and political structures in the Persian Gulf monarchies is a multidisciplinary subject. It is designed to give the students a holistic view of the processes, key trends and the essential economic and business indicators with a focus on the Persian Gulf monarchies (among them: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain) which are political and economic drivers in the MENA region in the 21 century. It is crutial to search their development model and new roles in the regional and international relations.The course investigates the theoretical as well as practical aspects of the roles of Persian Gulf monarchies. The first part of the course focuses on the theoretical aspects of the relationship between the state and the economy. It highlights important institutional differences in the society and elites and explores the implications of those differences for trade and business connections. During the second part has a practical business focus and also covers the potential of biliteral connection for Russia and Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.
