Students have successfully completed a project on Corporate Governance in Islamic Finance
On Saturday, 1 June 2024, the final case defence of the project "Practical Aspects of Corporate Governance in Islamic Finance" took place. The project was implemented by the School of World Economy and was specially designed for students of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs together with guest lecturers Yunusov L.A., Doctor of Science (Economics), and Turuev I.B., First Vice President of Gazprombank.
Islamic finance is one of the most important trends of recent decades, and today Islamic banks can be found in various countries around the world. In August 2023, the Russian Federation signed a federal law establishing an experimental legal regime for the development of partnership (Islamic) finance in four constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The need for specialists with knowledge of finance and understanding of cultural, regional peculiarities is growing.
Participants in the project were students of the bachelor's programmes "Asian and African Studies" and "World Economy" and the master's programme "Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia".
As a result of the project, the participants gained a holistic view of the nature and system of corporate governance of the organization providing services in the field of Islamic finance, learned the basic principles and methods, technologies and tools of modern management in the field of Islamic finance. The acquired knowledge and skills were applied by the project participants at the final defense, presenting case studies of Islamic fintech start-ups in Russia and Malaysia.
The book "Fundamentals of Corporate Governance in the Islamic Financial System" edited by Turuev I.B., Yunusov L.A., Pertseva S.Y. and Imamkulieva E.E., published in 2024, was a support for the immersion in the project work. The publication reveals theoretical and practical aspects of corporate governance in the Islamic financial system, and contains relevant information on the development of the Islamic financial sector.
