Maria Yurevich, 2nd year Master student, has published a paper on heterogeneity effect in visual search
The paper has been published in Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance
In this article, authors investigated targets-background interactions during visual search. They demonstrated that increasing of unique features number (heterogeneity) of a display facilitate rather than inhibit the speed of visual search. Authors suggest that this effect can be considered as a basis for the rapid object categorization in everyday life.
