Requirements

Admission to Higher School of Economics and Kyung Hee University Double Degree MA Program “Economics, Politics, and Business in Asia” is based on the results of the portfolio contest.

To participate in the competition, the applicant must submit the following portfolio components to HSE Master's Personal Account:

  • Passport

  • Diploma

  • CV in English

  • Documents or interview demonstrating sufficient proficiency in English

  • Documents or interview demonstrating sufficient proficiency in one East Asian language (Korean, Chinese, Japanese)

  • Motivation letter in English

  • Two recommendation letters in Russian or English

  • Copies of academic publications (if available)

  • Other documents (if available)

  • Additional education (if available)

Portfolio Evaluation Criteria

Knowledge of English language is mandatory. To confirm your English proficiency, you must provide a valid international language certificate:

  • TOEFL - 500 and higher (paper-based)

  • TOEFL - 80 and higher (internet-based)

  • IELTS - 6 and higher

  • Cambridge – BEC or CAE

A certificate is not required if English is your native language, or if the previous level of education was received in English not more than 2 years prior to submitting documents for enrollment to the program. Applicants that do not submit the above documents are to be interviewed to determine their level of proficiency in English by teachers of the program. The interview may be conducted via Skype.

For the specialization “Business in Asia”, knowledge of the corresponding language is mandatory upon selection of internships in companies located in the territory of East Asian countries.

  • HSK (qualification exam in the Chinese language) - level 4 or higher

  • TOPIK (qualification exam in the Korean language) - level 4 or higher

  • JPLT (qualification exam in the Japanese language) - level N3 or higher

OR

Copies of documents demonstrating that the corresponding East Asian language at the previous level during primary or additional education was studied for at least 600 contact hours not more than 2 years prior to submitting documents for enrollment to the program.

OR

Applicants that do not submit the above documents are to be interviewed in one of the East Asian languages (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) by teachers of the program. The interview may be conducted via Skype.

When choosing the specialization "International Relations in Asia", knowledge of the corresponding asian language is, while desirable, not obligatory.
