ICEF prepares a summer course within HSE Summer University
The August of 2020 will see ICEF delivering an additional course in Financial Economics. Successful participants will be entitled to scholarships for ICEF Master of Financial Economics Programme. Here’s what the course is about and how to enroll.
The summer will be here before we know it and some will want to spend it productively. Therefore, ICEF is busy preparing a course in Financial Economics. Scheduled for August 2020, the course will be delivered within HSE Summer University in English, which makes it suitable for international students and Russian candidates with English language skills.
Course instruction
This is a week-long course. Participants will be offered series of lectures, discussion tables and workshops in Financial Economics, hosted by ICEF faculty staff and graduates. A special place on the course programme belongs to mathematical training of financial economists, while the key task is to introduce participants to modern approach to corporate financial analysis and to teach the principles and techniques of evaluating the most important corporate decisions. Key learning outcomes include practical skills of evaluating corporate financial decisions; awareness of recent empirical findings based on financial econometric models; understanding of practical issues of forecasting key financial market variables; ability to improve and develop intellectual and cultural levels; and prospects of further learning paths, professional development and career.
Course eligibility
HSE Summer University welcomes applications from 2-, 3- and 4-year bachelor’s students with solid background in Mathematics. The application deadline is April 20, 2020. Candidates will be selected through a competitive process and are required to provide their CV and academic transcript. With some applicants course enrolment can also include interviews. It is required that applicants have English skills (upper intermediate or 6.0 points, which is a minimum level for ICEF MSc Programme entrants). There are 30 places on this course.
Course plan and instructors
The course plan consists of three main modules:
1. Capital Structure: Theory and Practice - the analysis of financing (capital structure) decisions of a firm
2. Introduction to Quantitative Finance and Risk Management - insights in the functioning of financial markets, understanding of measuring and forecasting financial risks
3. Global Financial Flows and Financial Crises
The course will be delivered by a team of ICEF faculty including Sergey Stepanov, Udara Peiris, Daniil Esaulov, among others.
