HSE University Day 2019. Live Broadcast
HSE University is not only about studying and hard work. Every year since 2012 we hold a university-wide celebration, HSE Day, which transforms Moscow's famous Gorky Park into a large university campus. Come to the park to meet HSE University up close - you can talk to students and staff, attend lectures and workshops, and take part in a wide range of activities. On September 5th, 2019, HSE Day will take place in Gorky Park. This year, HSE research and education website IQ has prepared a surprise for the guests. IQ staff together with Irina Sirotkina, HSE visiting lecturer, are organizing a performance dedicated to mass Soviet dance.
HSE University Maintains Its Position in ARWU Ranking
HSE University has firmly entered the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is known for its rigorous selection criteria. After placing in the ranking for the first time last year, HSE University maintained its position despite increased competition — more than 50 new universities entered the ranking for the first time this year.
Times Higher Education Young Universities Summit to Be Held in Moscow for the First Time
On June 24-26, 2020, the THE Young Universities Summit will be held for the first time at HSE University in Moscow. An official hand off ceremony was held earlier at the University of Surrey, which hosted the event this year. It was not by chance that HSE University was selected to be next year’s summit host—it is the only Russian university that consistently ranks among the THE top 100 young universities, and this year it took 60th place.
HSE Ranks Among Top 60 Best Young Universities Worldwide in THE Ranking
In 2019 the Higher School of Economics has climbed from 84th to 60th place in the Time Higher Education (THE) world ranking of young universities. HSE University is the only Russian university to place in the top 100 of this ranking.
HSE University Improves its Position in QS World Rankings
HSE University has improved its position in the QS institutional ranking by 21 places this year, taking 7th place among Russian universities. The advancement comes thanks to a significant improvement in academic reputation and assessment of university graduates by employers.
Library Night at HSE: Shakespeare, Museums and Quests
Almost 40 teams took part in the ‘Through the pages of Basmania’ quest, organized by the Higher School of Economics as part of an annual citywide event, Library Night. Event participants also staged passages from Romeo and Juliet and attended lectures about theatre at HSE library.

On March 20, a conference of HSE staff and students will take place at HSE. It will consider the university’s development programme and elect the new Academic Council. The previous conference took place five years ago, in 2014, and the university has changed a lot since then. HSE News Service talked to some of the university leaders about what has changed in their area of responsibility over this period.
