The Higher School of Economics has successfully completed the the Final State Examination of the master's program “International Trade Law and Dispute Resolution”
Moscow, Russia — The Higher School of Economics is proud to announce the completion of the Final State Examination of the master’s program “International Trade Law and Dispute Resolution,” which took place on May 18 and 25, 2024.
This is an important stage in the academic and professional lives of students, and also highlights HSE’s commitment to preparing highly qualified specialists in the field of international law.
Students of the program have demonstrated extensive knowledge not only in specialized disciplines in their chosen tracks, but also in general disciplines of the program, such as the theory of international economic law and the law of international treaties. The examination committee, headed by Yulia Mullina, director of the Russian Arbitration Center, highly appreciated the level of preparation of the students, their deep knowledge in the field of international law, command of the English language and active participation in discussions on controversial legal issues.
The examination committee included outstanding specialists in the field of international law and related disciplines:

- Filatova M.A., Associate Professor, Department of International Law;
- Lomakina P.A., head of the expert and contractual direction of the legal work center, PJSC Inter RAO;
- Talanov V.V., head of the International Trade and Customs Law practice of the Moscow office of the Bureau, Law Firm "Egorov, Puginsky and Partners", lawyer at the St. Petersburg Bar Association;
- Starshinova O.S., Deputy Head of the Department of Trade in Goods of the Department of Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation;
- Rovnov Yu.E., senior researcher at the BRICS International Center for Competition Law and Policy and senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law.
HSE continues to maintain high standards of teaching and invest resources in preparing future leaders in the field of international law.
Public defense of Master’s theses was held on May 25 . Master's students presented research covering a wide range of current issues in the field of international law.
The topics of the WRC included diverse and relevant issues, such as:
- Impact of economic sanctions on dispute resolution;
- Principles of exhaustion trademark rights in international trade: Theory and current problems;
- Protection of foreign investment in armed conflict;
- Exploring International Courts’ Exercise of Incidental Jurisdiction: Towards Coherent Approaches Through Res Judicata;
- Accountability of parent companies for human rights violations before the national courts.
Members of the examination committee highly appreciated the novelty and independence of the conducted research, emphasizing the importance and relevance of the selected topics. The works of several students, namely Victoria Polshakova, Dmitry Silkin and Daria Ulanova, were especially noted and proposed for publication in the HSE University Journal of International Law, which is a significant achievement and recognition of their high quality research.
