Programme Description

The ‘Business Development Strategies: Management and Consulting’ Master’s Programme is the upgraded version of the ‘Strategic Management and Corporate Governance’ Programme, which had its first graduates in 2001.
The programme trains highly qualified managers able to work effectively in corporate development, strategy and planning departments of both Russian and multinational corporations. Furthermore, our graduates also build successful careers in management consulting.
The competitive advantages of the programme include its multidisciplinary approach to business issues and lectures delivered by management and consultancy professionals.

The master’s programme solves the following key tasks:

  • In-depth study of recent concepts of strategic management and corporate governance, management of changes, innovations and organizational dynamics;
  • In-depth study of the processes of development of administrative solutions, creation of the vision of the future, development of the company’s mission and strategy;
  • Mastering the principles and methods of empirical research of the complex of strategic problems of corporate development and preparation for such studies in Russian companies;
  • Mastering the models and methods of corporate governance, the evaluation of corporate solutions’ effectiveness, the mechanisms of corporate governance related to the activity of the board of directors;
  • In-depth study of the processes of strategic company architecture creation and understanding modern business models.

A special feature of the programme is its focus on the system solution of strategic tasks in the context of corporate evolution. The programme forms a modern concept of the processes of strategic task solution both at the level of executive management and at the level of the board of directors. The development of the corporate branch broadens the spectrum of graduates’ knowledge application and involves work in corporate development departments, strategic and planning departments and consulting companies.

The students of the programme in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance take active part in international cooperation programmes of the Faculty of Management. Intensive French and German language training is organized for programme participants.

Those students participating in the international courses implemented in line with the HSE’s agreements with the Humboldt University and Paris 12 Val de Marne University have received Russian and French master’s DEA degrees. This programme is unique thanks to its academic approach to the study of the problems of strategic management and focus on joint scientific research.

The programme has been implemented by leading teachers of the Department of General and Strategic Management in cooperation with the Center of Corporate Governance and related departments of the Higher School of Economics. The department cooperates with the World Bank Institute as part of the ‘Global Classroom’ programme and the Schulich School of Business, York University, as part of the Canada-Russian programme in corporate governance. The Department cooperates with the Russian Institute of Directors, the Association of Independent Directors and the National Council for Corporate Governance. Key disciplines of the programme are taught by leading professors and teachers of the HSE.

Graduates of the programme have gone on to work in leading Russian and international companies and organizations, as well as in governmental bodies. These companies include banks and investment companies, such as Vneshtorgbank, Vneshekonombank, Sberbank, Alfabank, Gazprombank, Nikoil, Troyka Dialog; insurance companies, including ROSNO, Reso Garantia, Energogarant; industrial and trade companies, such as Lukoil, Norilsk Nickel, RAO UES of Russia, Gazprom, Russian Railways, EuroCement Group, Bazovy Element, Protek, Rosagroexport; large international companies, such as Unilever, Michelin, L’Oreal, Auchan, Procter&Gamble, DuPont, Gillette; leading consulting companies, such as Yakov & Partners, Axenix, B1, TeDo, DRT, KEPT etc.
