Deep diving into the practice: manufacture, history, and professional contacts
November 12 to 14 students and experts of the program "Psychology in business" was immersed in the tasks and particularities of production in the ancient center of trade and industry Rybinsk.
Whether professional business psychologist to develop without the knowledge of the world of real business and understanding what is happening in organizations, both commercial and industrial? With confidence, we note that this question is rhetorical. Of course, a business psychologist, it is important to know not only approaches and technologies studied in the University, but also the conditions of implementation of business tasks in companies. So every year the students and teachers in our program attend various regions of the country to meet with business representatives to obtain information about successful practices in business psychology.
This year a group of business psychologists invited the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Yaroslavl region – Sergey Kysenev. An interesting member of the group was Professor of innovation, University of Toronto Stephen Armstrong (Canada).
Impressions of the trip shared by the students Dmitry Golovin and Nikita Sivakov.
Rybinsk in our country has a reputation as a major industrial city, which are strategically important plants, such as ODK-Saturn or Russian mechanics, which got the delegation. In the city, there is an active modernization: a fully restored red square, the stock exchange building and the railway station and also the promenade. Sergey not only showed the city but also shared his thoughts about the development of the region and the business news. After a short tour of the city, we headed to the plant "Russian mechanics", where we met with the company Director and his assistants. They had a warm welcome, was introduced to the production process and showed how to create quads and snowmobiles. The meeting discussed important issues relating to the management of the organization, strategic development and overcoming resistance to change. They especially liked the idea of a Canadian guest, who soon became actively involved in the discussion.
Very useful thoughts shared teacher HSE, Eliseenko A. S., whose tasks included not only participation in the conversation, but consecutive interpreting. Interview with representatives of the plant was productive, communication was established and the General Director of the plant Leonid Mozheiko demonstrated an excellent command of the English language. The meeting ended with a well-organized lunch. The impression of such a reception was extremely positive - it was the beginning of the solution of important industrial problems.
After a meeting at the plant we visited one of the major museums in Rybinsk historical, architectural and art Museum-reserve, where they learned a lot about the history of the city, and Stephen had learned something new about Russia.
The Museum made a huge impression. The evening of the same day held a dinner, which was attended by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Yaroslavl region, as well as businessmen and scientists. Stephen continued to get acquainted with the history of Russia and Russian cuisine, which he really liked. On the way back to Moscow we visited Yaroslavl and stopped in Rostov. During the trip, they discussed the results of meetings and impressions from the trip, which gave all of us a lot of experience and new knowledge.
Thank you for the opportunity to meet with real-life businesses in Russia! To see which prospects actually have business in Russia and to understand that business psychologists can join the real serious business and really contribute to the development of industry and economy in our country!
