Bamidele Ola, a second-year student of the master's programme ‘Population and Development’, participated in the SDG International Youth Forum 2018 which was held at MGIMO University, on March 30-31. He is sharing his reflections on the forum.

The International Youth concept of Sustainable Development Goals forum is the leading discussion forum, where the most relevant topics of sustainable development in the economics, law, politics and socio-economic areas of international cooperation within the UN and other international organizations are being discussed. The Forum is the project of the MGIMO University’s Economic club Oeconomicus.

"The aim of the forum is to brainstorm ideas to achieve SDGs and draft policy recommendations for national governments.

During the first day each of the 17 SDGs was assigned to a committee with experts. Each delegate presented their position papers on the current situation of any issue related to the SDG in the country they represent. Then each committee discuss their theme issues and brainstormed recommendations on how to better address SDGs worldwide. I was a part of the Gender Equality Committee (SDG No. 5) and India.

On the next day, there were heated debates on the content of policy recommendations of our committee. I was insisting on including recommendations related to the legalization of abortion. At the end of the day, there was a secret vote for the Best Delegate, who gave the most useful contributed the most and gave constructive criticisms in the Gender Committee. The result of the vote was overwhelming - I was announced to be the Best Delegate of our Committee. I would like to thank Vladimir Kozlov and other professors for their work, as many issues considered at the Forum, were discussed during our classes, and Yugoh Lav for sharing the information about that forum."
