10th Demographic Conference of "Young Demographers"
Sally Sonia Simmons, a second-year student of the master’s programme “Population and Development”, participated in the 10th Demographic Conference of "Young Demographers", which took place in Charles University, Prague, Check Republic, February 6-8, 2019.
Sally earned the opportunity to present two papers (posters) at the conference as well as to take part in a workshop on R programming on February 6. The focal areas in the course are practical lessons on looping, networking and cluster analysis. Her first poster, which was devoted to “The Contribution of Infectious and External Causes of Death to the Variations in Life Expectancy among Males and Females in South Africa from 2000 to 2005”, was presented on the 7th of February during the poster section. The second paper was presented on 8th of February and was captioned as “Spatial Variations in the Prevalence of Socio-Demographic Factors Influencing Visual Impairment in Ghana: A Bouquet of Images.” Prior to the poster sessions, Sally had the opportunity to listen and experiences modern demographic methods for analysis from her fellow conference participants including George Alter and Tomas Sobotka
