What is the first step in writing any academic paper? Of course, it is an analysis of the literature of other authors in the academic field under study. This step allows you to fully immerse in the topic and find research gaps. However, finding a scientific article in the public domain is not the easiest task. Fortunately, you are reading this article, in which the students of the programme will tell you how to register in the HSE electronic library, which resources are best used to search for literature, and much more.

Since its creation, the educational program “Population and Development” has enrolled a total of 127 students, coming from 29 different countries and from this number six countries represent the continent of Africa. The African countries are made up of the Republic of Ghana, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Cameroon, the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Kenya, and the Republic of the Sudan. Amongst these countries, Ghana has the highest student population share at 62.5%, and next to Ghana is Nigeria at 32.5% of the entire African student population. We talked to African students who study at “Population and Development” to find out where they learned about the educational program, what they like most about studying process and how the knowledge gained at the HSE can help them in the development of academic career.

On February 11, 2023, the presentation of the English-language master's program “Population and Development” took place within the framework of the Winter School of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Higher School of Economics. During the event, the academic supervisor of the program, Alexander Vitalievich Larionov, revealed the nuances of admission, and the features and advantages of the learning process. His speech was continued by 2nd-year students who told everyone present about student and extracurricular life.

February 9, 2023 student of the educational program “Population and Development” Adeitan Mustafa Adenii made a presentation at the conference in the format of a round table discussion organized in preparation for the 2nd Russia-Africa summit, which is scheduled for July 2023. The virtual event which was gathered by the Russian-African club in conjunction with the Faculty of Journalism, Moscow State University (MSU) had over 100 participants drawn from both academia and media industries. In particular, 35 participants from four regions of Africa and Russia made presentations at the conference.

On January 23, an Open Day was held for the master's program “Population and Development” of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Higher School of Economics. During the event, participants had the opportunity to get to know the program better. In particular, applicants were told about the details of the admission process and the features of studying. In addition, part of the meeting was devoted to the discussion of the advantages of the specialty and the trajectories of building a career path. 

From 1^st February to 31^st March, HSE University will accept documents for the “Early Invitation to Admission” competition for Russian students. The early invitation competition is one of the ways that students can enlist at the master’s level, bypassing the summer admission campaign. This competition aims to facilitate and boost the certainty of highly-motivated final-year students to be enrolled in the “Population and Development” master’s educational program.

On November 30, 2022, students of the Population and Development program made their presentations at the International Conference of Students and Young Scientists "Carpe Scientiam" at Moscow State University.
