Vera Syrakvash attended UNECE activities in Geneva

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of 1995 is the key instrument to ensure empowerment of women and girls around the globe. In 2020, it will be 25 years since the Beijing Platform for Action set strategic objectives. Student of our program Vera Syrakvash participated in the civil society forum and at the UNECE Regional Review Meeting in Geneva, held on 28-30 October 2019 in Geneva.

The aim of the forum was to shape the regional Beijing+25 process. As a civil society representative, together with other participants Vera was helping to identify priorities and prepare statements from regional and thematic perspectives. Vera worked on regional position paper of Eastern Europe and a thematic paper about sexual reproductive health & rights, where women’s right for bodily autonomy, sexual and reproductive health and rights were stated.

Later, under the roof of UN, Vera participated in several events. Vera attended plenary sessions, where UN member states reviewed progress by governments on the Beijing commitments, touching upon topics like women representation in the policy- and decision making, women and climate change, effecting economic and social policies in the UNECE region. This Conference, devoted to 25th anniversary of the Declaration, had been widely acknowledged as an important event and a platform to speak about gender inequality.
