MASNA Online Workshop 'How to analyze a network of your friends with social network analysis' on May 26
MASNA, the online master's programme ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’, has held the workshop ‘How to analyze a network of your friends with social network analysis’.
During the session our presenter Lika Kapustina, the research assistant of ANR-Lab, explained how networks reflect our reality, explained a few basic concepts and showed how to build a network of friends based on the Russian social network VKontakte.
The entire workshop was aimed to provide the attendees with the ideas:
- about the process of building network data;
- on the use of digital methods for the purposes of social sciences;
- network analysis (a little about Python and the VK API);
- about metrics (degree, centrality) and the software tool Gephi Lite.
In addition, Ivan Klimov, Academic Supervisor of MASNA, and Irina Pavlova, Deputy Head of ANR-Lab, talked about the study plan of MASNA master's programme, admission and education process, and answered questions from applicants.
