From November 9 – 13, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge is organizing its Tenth International Academic Conference ‘Foresight and STI Policy’. The conference has been acknowledged by OECD as one of the world’s most important forums of foresight researchers. It will the tenth time that the conference brings together Russian and international experts from the leading think tanks, research centres and universities, national ministries and government bodies, development institutes and high-tech companies from over 20 countries.

According to HSE University’s Global Cities Innovation Index, New York and London are the world’s most attractive megacities to innovators implementing creative and technological initiatives. Moscow ranked among the rating’s top ten cities, leading in the areas of ‘Innovation Infrastructure’ and ‘Digital Infrastructure and Services’. HSE researchers presented the index at this year’s Open Innovations Forum.

DUTCH SCIENCE TALKS: Sustainability transitions: new governance and action research

On September 17th, Prof. Derk Loorbach delivered a lecture on sustainability transitions, the lecture took place at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. This lecture, attended by a hundred people from both HSE University and outside, introduced the audience to sustainability transitions research and transition governance.

On November 1–2, 2017, Higher School of Economics will host its 7 th  Annual International Academic Conference "Foresight and STI Policy" organised by HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge. This year, the conference will be devoted to the role of society in search for grand responses to grand challenges.

Students Examine Cybersecurity Contextualization in Russia and the United States

Students from HSE ISSEK, Stanford University, and Rice University have researched how Russia and the US cooperate in cybersecurity and explored the nuances present in the approaches that each country takes in this area, including different understandings of cybersecurity-related terms. The research was conducted in 2016-2017 as part of the Stanford US-Russia Forum (SURF), a programme dedicated to developing US-Russia cooperation. Over a period of 8 months, 30 American and Russian students and young professionals worked on their projects.

Science Diplomacy as an Emerging Topic: Some Insights from Professor Pierre-Bruno Ruffini

On 21 February, 2017, Pierre-Bruno Ruffini, Professor of Economics, University of Le Havre (France) and previously Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Russia (2007-2010) and Italy (2010-2013), delivered the open lecture «Science Diplomacy – Basic Concepts and Key Issues» under the HSE Master`s programme «Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation» for students, scholars and practitioners.
