Our courses: Laboratory phonetics

The course is a practical introduction to advanced phonetics and speech signal processing. Its goal is to introduce students to current issues in phonetics and to teach them basic skills for digital signal processing using Praat speech analysis software. This course​ extend basic knowledge of acoustic features of the sound system of Russian and introduce basics of experimental design in phonetics, also in its application to the data of lesser known languages. The course covers such topics as:

• acoustic and articulation of different sound classes as well as their analysis under Praat 
• intonation systems and their instrumental analysis and visualization
• Scripting in Praat
