New clinical study with the Children's Academy of Speech
Center for Language and Brain launched a new collaboration project together with the speech therapy center Children's Academy of Speech, which provides intervention and treatment for children with language-learning difficulties or delays in cognitive and behavioural development.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of their unique 'The Speech Launch' program that is based on the centre's integral approach to clinical intervention. Very often difficulties in acquiring a language are a symptom of another underlying problem, such as delays in the development of some neuropsychological functions relevant for speech production. These include motor and sensory systems, as well as the child's cognitive and social/behavioural abilities, which are not easy to separate from one another during differential diagnosis. Thus, 'The Speech Launch' focuses on enhancing the typical speech treatment by providing additional support from neurologists and psychologists. It is an intensive 3- to 4-week course with daily individual treatment sessions with a speech therapist and a neuropsychologist. Center for Language and Brain provides an objective evaluation of the children's progress by testing their linguistic abilities pre- and post-treatment, using a set of standardized tests developed in the lab.
