Vladislava Staroverova and Nina Zdorova at two scientific events in Serbia

Research Fellows of the Center for Language and Brain took part in the 4th International Spring School and gave oral talks on a workshop closing the School

The4th International School on Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics and Clinical Linguistics was held on April 15-19, 2024 in Novi Sad, Serbia. This is a scientific event that brings together world's leading researchers in the field of Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics and Psychology, providing an opportunity for students and postgraduates from different countries and with different backgrounds to attend lectures from leading experts in their field.

Participation in the School is a certified training that provides participants with three ECTS credits. The lectures covered both basic and advanced topics in the field of language development, language processing models, ethical issues in experimental research, and statistical methods of data analysis.

Following the school, on April 20, the University of Novi Sad held the 11thworkshop on Psycholinguistic, neurolinguistic and clinical linguistic research (PNCLR), where Vladislava Staroverova and Nina Zdorova, research fellows of the Center for Language and Brain, delivered oral presentations.

Vladislava Staroverova presented a talk on the development of perceptual span in Russian-speaking primary school children. For the first time in the Russian language, the study shows experimental data on the size of the perceptual span in Russian-speaking schoolchildren and on its development from 1st to 4th grade.

Nina Zdorova presented a talk on the development of standardized tools for dyslexia diagnosis in primary school in different languages (Russian, Tatar, Adyghe). The report touched upon the problem of diagnosing dyslexia in bilingual schoolchildren, suggested moving away from the classical paradigm of comparing bilinguals with monolinguals, and discussed the problem of insufficient linguistic resources to assess text complexity in minority languages.
