Researchers of the HSE Center for Language and Brain took part in the Xth International Conference on Cognitive Science in Pyatigorsk

On June 26-30, theXth International Conference on Cognitive Science, organized by the "Association for Cognitive Studies" (IACS), was held at Pyatigorsk State University. It featured oral and poster presentations on interdisciplinary studies of cognition, intelligence, mind, language and speech, acquisition and implementation of skills and knowledge, brain mechanisms of mental activity and complex behaviours. The conference was attended by leading experts in the field of interdisciplinary cognitive research, including employees of the Center for Language and Brain.

Nina Zdorova and Vladislava Staroverova delivered oral presentations devoted to reading in primary school students: Nina Zdorova spoke on the development, testing and standardization of the “Karasik” test for a comprehensive assessment of reading skills in primary school children, and Vladislava Staroverova spoke about the development of the perceptual span in children from grades 1 to 4.

Researchers of the Center for Language and Brain also presented their posters. Yulia Nikolaeva presented a work about a multichannel approach to the description of gestures in aphasia, Tatiana Eremicheva — about phonological processing skills as predictors of reading speed and accuracy in children 5-6 years old, Daria Morozova — about the consonant and vowel confusions in speech-in-noise acoustic perception in Russian, Daria Mitsuk — about electrophysiological correlates and behavioral markers of the acquisition of grammatical rules during passive listening in Russian-speaking adults, Nina Zdorova — about the influence of the morphological complexity of a word on eye movements while reading Adyghe, Yana Kokoreva and Vasilisa Stepanova — about communicative competence in post-stroke speech disorders, Ksenia Novoselova — about the connection between cognitive functions and difficulties in learning a foreign language (based on learning Japanese), Olga Buivolova — about the neural correlates of speech disorders caused by stroke, Olga Soloukhina — about production of nouns and verbs in aphasia: the influence of psycholinguistic parameters, Maria Protopova — about sentence completion for individual language localization based on MEG, Ksenia Khlebnikova — about the role of the right hemisphere in ensuring language function in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy of the left hemisphere.

Congratulations to all participants on their successful performance at the conference!
